We believe in reviving elegance in agriculture and striving to maintain a natural balance in our vineyards and surrounding forest areas. The land we farm is our greatest asset and we take every precaution to nurture and protect it. We’re small but mindfully farmed. Our philosophy of minimal intervention in the vineyards and practicing traditional techniques translates to our winemaking focus where we only craft wines from grapes we grow ourselves at Bell Mountain vineyard.

Napa

John Anthony Truchard is a second-generation vintner whose heritage is rooted in the Napa Valley. First and foremost, he is a farmer. Each of his terroir-driven wines tells the story of his history in Napa. John learned traditional winegrowing, the art of growing grapes to produce wine, from his father and other pioneering Napa Valley vintners. He worked alongside them from a very early age. As a young man, John put his passion and experience to work by starting his own vineyard management business. He sought small and previously undiscovered parcels of choice land throughout the Napa Valley to practice his terroir-driven style of viticulture. In the late 1990s, John began planting his own vineyards. The John Anthony Vineyards portfolio presents a diverse range of American Viticultural Areas, single-vineyard sites, noble varietals, and exceptional library vintages.

St Helena

The winemaking team of Davies Vineyards strives to find the depth and character in every wine they craft, producing an unmatched level of quality and style in each bottling. Following the vision of Jamie Davies, who spirited the first bottling of the first J. Davies Estate Cabernet Sauvignon in 2001, each year Davies Vineyards sets out to craft wines that are supple enough to be enjoyed upon release, while being robust and structured enough to age gracefully over time. With the ultimate intent being to allow each vineyard to express its individual natural character, the site selections and picking decisions are based on the taste and structure of the fruit on the vine. Because the winemakers utilize more than 10 different vineyard sites across four of California’s appellations, each year brings new opportunities to craft delicious wines while adapting to the annual changes the environment delivers. With ever-advancing technological improvements, and a constant curiosity to find better techniques in the winery, the team is able to fold the new knowledge into a timeless practice of crafting consistent and layered red wines. Since that first harvest in 2001, Davies Vineyards has never strayed from the founding principles that were instilled by Jamie and continues to develop delicious wines that show an intimate knowledge of a place.

In 2014, the property's current owners purchased the Keith Family property, renaming it Maxville. Under the guidance and vision of CEO Anthony Hsu, extensive renovations were made to the winery and grounds, resulting in the stunning architecture and modern art of our winery’s grand entrance. Anthony hired the renowned San Francisco landscape artist Topher Delaney to create the garden entrance to the new winery building. Topher's "Oculus of Light" abstract sculpture is the central focus of our garden walk, and honors the land and its specific sense of "place". Today, our expansive estate is home to our estate vineyard, winery, barrel aging caves and private lake, and is surrounded by the signature oak trees of Chiles Valley, or "Valley of the Oaks".

Valtoñar is a small winery in northern Spain located in the town of Anguix (Burgos) in the heart of the Ribera del Duero. The winery was founded in 2000 by the Rioja López family, whose family’s wine-growing tradition dates back to the 16th century. Valtoñar only makes wines with grapes produced on their own vineyards. They work with several varietals including: Tempranillo, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Albillo Mayor. Valtoñar’s philosophy is to respect their raw materials as much as possible. The grapes really are the cementing basis for their whole operation. This same philosophy for respecting what nature gives them shines through in their winemaking as well. Proof of this is how they use indigenous yeast in their fermentation process. This yeast comes directly from their vineyards and is found within the grapes. This results in authentic and incomparable wines that are true to their origin.

Then one day, he said to me, ‘Hey Dave, I just planted 10,000 grapevines!’” And so began the evolution of Opolo, one of Paso Robles’ premier labels. Santa Barbara County

Small lot, hand crafted wines from vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County! tercero wines is the brainchild of Larry Schaffer, owner and winemaker. He began the brand shortly after graduating with his Masters Degree in Viticulture and Enology from UC Davis – but this was well after he had completely switched directions in life and charted a new and exciting path. Larry started his college career at UC Davis as an undergraduate, but had no interest in wine. He transferred to UC Berkeley and received his BS in Business Administration from the Haas School of business. His first job out of school was in the music industry as he envisioned himself getting into the artist management and/or marketing side of music (he took pictures of punk bands in the LA music scene during high school). That never fully materialized and he switched directions, getting into the sales and marketing of educational products for teachers, eventually helping to create new markets for these products. He then went into the trade publishing field, working for a pop-up book publisher. He really enjoyed what he did – for awhile – but eventually felt that he was not being challenged intellectually at all. The idea of getting into wine was something he had considered in the past – but more on the sales and marketing side because of his background. Science was not something he was comfortable with or felt he could do very well – but as most of you know, winemaking involves lots of science. He therefore took the challenge on, taking basic science classes at community colleges with kids who literally could have been his kids, before transferring back to UC Davis to get his master’s degree. After graduating with his degree, he joined the winemaking team at Fess Parker Winery, where he stayed for nearly a decade before it was time to branch off and concentrate 100% on his own brand – and he could not be happier today. Larry is adept not only at winemaking but at explaining the process in a very user-friendly manner. Visit his tasting room or follow him on social media to see for yourself.
