Derek founded Ohm Coffee Roasters in 2016 with a simple mission: bring Napa Valley’s coffee up to the level of its world-class food and wine. A sommelier-turned-coffee obsessive, Derek applies wine-trained sensory thinking to roasting and blending—seeking the sweet spot where origin character, sugars, fruit, acidity, and roast notes work together as a cohesive whole. His tastings are interactive, approachable, and story-driven, inviting guests to taste with intention, trust their senses, and experience coffee the way a winemaker approaches a blend. When he’s not behind the roaster, Derek is a founding member and lead guitarist of the rock band Mama Said, whose second album Made of Stars is releasing now on all major streaming platforms.
